CVA “Connections” description and common uses

INTRODUCTION

This article will show some of the common uses of the CVA “Connections” option.

WHAT IS A CONNECTION?

CVA “Connections” is the setup that defines a connection relationship between an inbound connection from a user device to the outbound connection to the host.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


HOW MANY CAN YOU HAVE?

You can define up to 32 “Connections”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

HOW ARE THE “CONNECTIONS” ACCESSED FROM USER DEVICES?

Each “Connection” will reference the same inbound CVA address but will separate them by port numbers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

WHAT ARE SOME COMMON USES FOR MULTIPLE CONNECTIONS?

  • Different hosts.
    These host can be the same type or different. example a WEB host and a Linux VT100 host.
  • Different devices.
    In SAP it’s common to have a separate URL for each device type or you may want to have different setup for devices.
  •  Separate Facilities
    If the CVA is supporting multiple locations you may want the ability have different setups by location.
  • Diagnostic
    You could setup a separate diagnostic “Connection” to look for a specific problem that is only used in special cases
